Divided Galaxy Backstory
I have the occasional days where I do absolutely nothing at all, which is a polar opposite from my busy schedule. So I thought, 'why not just throw a story/RP universe together'. It's basically a time killer and can help with developmental ideas for some Role-Play or story one day, maybe. It's also just a 'create your own faction' type thing where you can basically do whatever you want with the faction as long as it's within certain bounds (no OP pls). I don't know, hopefully something can be done with this if someone decides to grab it and make something of it. I know that sometime I'll be putting something down because I've already made ideas and general 'skeleton' concepts.
The 'divided' part is critical, as the whole idea is currently generated around conflict that might possibly be perpetual. The whole idea of this concept is that it's sort of AU from reality and actual history, as in we have a galaxy inhabited by things that can range from fantasy (elves, goblins, etc.) to science fiction stuff (some sort of whack ass aliens). It all depends on what the person wants.

Cuulikaar the Righteous, Current Emperor of the Terran Dominion
Faction Name: Terran Dominion
Government Type: Authoritarian Monarchy
Race(s): Human
Backstory;
Background
The Terran Dominion was the product of revolutionary jingoism that spread throughout Earth and it's colonies upon the discovery of new sentient species within the galaxy. Already militaristic elements of the human species, who had previously turned their guns upon each other, now turned their guns upon their 'new' enemies in a united front. This whole idea of human supremacy rose up from the current Chairman of the United Earth Council, who had conspired with other elements (particularly military and intelligence) in order to orchestrate the unison of the human race. But sadly, like all plans, it had its quirks, and these problems quickly developed into a militant faction. This faction, under the leadership of the Martian nation of Cortellia, launched a bloody decade-long civil war that swept up all of human space into a mostly one-sided conflict as the newly established Terran Dominion swept through Cortellia and it's allied nations, completely obliterating them in a slow war of attrition that cost millions of lives on both sides. The so-called 'Great Human Civil War' left animosity between the Cortellian Republic and the Terran Dominion that last to this day. With a sweeping victory and the disappearance of the Cortellian supporters to unknown space, the Terran Dominion was allowed to expand and become the dominant representative of human intent throughout the galaxy.
The Terran Dominion shortly became known for its brutality against non-humans and complete desolation of non-human worlds. The Dominion transformed itself into an Authoritarian regime, headed by a monarch who was almost religiously praised as a living god by a jingoist society that blindly followed their leader and the government's policies. The Terran Dominion was responsible for the extinction of at least five sentient species from the galaxy in the first few hundreds years of its existence. With an ever-expanding policy based around human expansion and eventual domination of the Milky Way Galaxy, the Terran Dominion's aggressiveness has lead to the Dominion being in an almost perpetual state of war, often managing several war fronts at once against multiple species they have deemed 'unfit for genetic continuation'. As of recently, the Dominion has been seen more as a military with a society attached to it, not the other way around.
Life in Dominion Society
Dominion society is always dominated by the ever-expansive government located on Terra, the birth world of humanity. Life within Dominion society resembles that of an emerging european industrial society of the late nineteenth century, with a massive divide between the rich and poor along with a lack of interest in the welfare of its lower rungs of society. All levels of society get at least a basic rudimentary education to be able to work and perform their jobs to a somewhat successful degree. The only advances in education seen in the poor are joining the military, where it is fused into the mind of those joining before they are shipped off to the front to fight. The recent use of brain-fusing in Dominion society has seen success, though in the later stages of life it has lead to insanity and death. Dominion society is largely based around working and sacrificing for the continuation of both the Dominion and the Human race. Dominion propaganda utterly dominates the lives of the civilians within society, with noble tales of war and the telling of the great sacrifices committed by humans to keep their race moving forward being commonplace. Many civilian lives are often brutal and short, but in the long run give the dominion the resources it needs to continue functioning.
The Military
Despite the Dominion's influence as an overpowering force in the galaxy, it largely relies on sheer force of numbers and economy to defeat its adversaries. Composed of billions of soldiers, the Dominion's military is one of sacrifice and promise that is rarely achieved except by rare individuals and units. Having roots based upon Imperial European powers of the 18th and 19th centuries, the Dominion's military exists only to wage war upon the galaxy and completely eradicate races from the galaxy to make room for human expansion. Designed to look intimidating and menacing, the Dominion's equipment is rugged but reliable, leading to it's vast expansion into much of the galaxy over other races. The military is largely the only reason why the Dominion continues to exist, and plays a critical role in almost all aspects of Dominion society.
Standard Dominion Infantryman, outfitted with the most basic provisions to get him through his short time in the Dominion's continual wars.
Standard Dominion Officer, usually composed of royalty, the upper, or the middle classes. Their death rates are just as high as their infantryman counterparts.
Standard Dominion Cavalryman, which have played the critical role of a fast moving-mobile ground force that have aided the Dominion in achieving victory countless times.
The military executes all humans who integrate into other societies, deeming them as corrupted souls who betrayed their noble brothers falling in battle. Often times alien societies are cleansed of humans who had integrated into their societies.

Halmagenus Prosotev, Current Rector of the Cortellian Republic
Faction Name: Cortellian Republic
Government Type: Federal Republic
Race(s): Human
Backstory;
Background
The Cortellian Republic was founded from the fledgling opposition movement that spawned from the formation of the Terran Dominion. Rejecting the xenophobic ideology of their current government, the Martian city-state of Cortellia broke off with a small coalition of others governments and formed the Cortellian Federation. Rallying against the newly established Terran Dominion, the Cortellian Federation was almost completely wiped out by the Dominion and barely escaped. The war left the remnants of the Federation broken and wandering in lost space for several months before they came across a habitable planet. Being a long distance from the Terran Core, the planet of Cortellia was born and colonized by the survivors. Rejecting the new model of government that had formulated itself under the Dominion, the survivors established a republic that would be all the things the Dominion could not be. The Cortellian Republic's growth was dramatic and unprecedented, as the self-determination and commitment to progress held by the citizens of the newfound Republic propelled them into an expansion not known before in human history. Within three decades of the establishment of Cortellia, the Republic had established large major cities, a massive orbital shipyard, and a handful of colonies beyond the Cortellian system. Society thrived beneath the Republic as it expanded, and all previous thoughts of civilizations such as the Dominion gone, only harbored in ancient databases used for research. It wouldn't be until 2698 TY when the Cortellian Republic and Terran Dominion reestablished contact with each other when a small Dominion scouting force discovered the Cortellian colony of Corosi.
Following the incident at Corosi, the Dominion and Republic engaged in a five year war, where the Republic held its own and managed to invade Dominion space and land troops on several planets. Despite all claims from Terra that the Republic was nothing but a bunch of heretical traitors, it became evidently clear that the Dominion was not the only voice of humans in the galaxy when the invaded colonies left the Dominion to join the Republic. The Republic and Dominion have continued to be locked in conflict until the present day, with the Cortellian defense forces always rallying to repel any crusades by the Dominion to destroy their way of life.
Life in Republic Society
Life within Cortellian society is vastly different from its Dominion counterpart. Cortellian life is dominated by self-sustainment and economic prosperity with an undying loyalty to upholding the rights guaranteed to all Republic citizens beneath the Cortellian Declaration. The divides between social classes are much smaller, and unlike other entities, there is no strict class system or barrier that prevent the poor from getting rich and the rich from getting poor. A vast consumer lifestyle dominates Republic citizens in almost every aspect, but even the distractions given by that lifestyle does not distract citizens from paying attention to their government and political figures. Cortellian society is based heavily on supporting the rights granted to them by the Declaration, as the Republic was founded on escaping the principles that oppressed them underneath the Dominion. The masses of industry that have sustained the Republic rarely leave a hand empty from work, though the economy is has stimulated has had some worrying over the future of Cortellian society.
The Military
Unlike their Terran counterparts, the Cortellian Military is an all-volunteer force that abides by the principles of 'quality over quantity'. However, that hasn't stopped the military from supplementing its numbers with robots in order to be on an equal footing with their enemies. The Cortellian military prides itself on its ability to defend Cortellian space and the people it protects, valuing the lives of innocent civilians over all other objectives. The military's continual string of victories against the Dominion has won it widespread support from the public and has seen a tremendous bolster in recruitment as young men flock to sign up after being inspired by tales from the battlefield. The military prides itself on being the protectors of the people, willing to turn their guns on their own government if an autocratic rule has taken over and the populace demands it be removed. The success of the Cortellian military has been seen as a fundamental reason why a free people prosper over an oppressed people by both those under the Republic and those under the Dominion.

Odassi Treumth, Current King of the Gelkan Commonwealth
Faction Name: Gelkan Commonwealth
Government Type: 'Electoral' Monarchy
Race(s): Human, Skr'ill (Daemon), Skr'illian subtypes
Backstory;
Background
The Gelkan Commonwealth was a federation of multiple warlords, statesmen, and other powerful entities of the Skr'illian race that barely coexisted with each other. By nature, the Skr'ill, nicknamed Daemons by the Terran Dominion for their species appearance, were warlike and unruly by nature. Skr'illian society was divided into a caste system that only offered brutality and death. Each caste of society had been genetically altered overtime to conform to their assigned jobs, and it was rare for a member that was not apart of the political ruling class or warrior class to ascend and become King of the Federation. At their weakest, the Skr'ill are divided into hundreds of different factions all warring to become the dominant power in society. At their strongest, the Skr'ill are united under one King and devote all their efforts into conquering neighboring factions or parts of their own society that had not conformed. Skr'ill are treacherous and deceptive by nature, and will thus use every advantage offered to them to climb the political ladder and gain more power. However, unlike other conquered species, the Skr'ill support these traits by their love for conflict and glory. A King is only elected after a large period of warring occurred within the species and one faction rose above all the others, either convincing their foes to join them or decimating them and bringing their king to bear. Whenever the title of 'King of the Skr'ill' has been taken by an individual, the King is responsible for upholding the unwritten code that all Skr'illians abide by and crushing any opposition to his throne.
As of recent times, Humans began intermingling with Skr'illian society when a fleet of colony ships from the Terran Dominion got lost and stumbled upon the Skr'ill. Only the strongest among those humans survived and integrated into society, and they soon began claiming positions of power along with intermarrying to Skr'ill and producing mixed-blood children. The current King, Odassi, has welcomed integration of humans into Skr'illian society, with a significant number of his advisory council being either human or mixed blood Skr'ills. Odassi has recently launched an all out war against the Terran Dominion as well to assert his power as King and keep society busy from rebelling against him and his rule.
Life under the Skr'ill
Life beneath the Skr'ill is incredibly harsh and demanding, with most Skr'ill either perishing on the battlefield, from their own species, or dying of poor living conditions before reaching adulthood. Skr'illian society assures that only the strongest and smartest are fit to survive in the galaxy, with the weaker either dying off or being placed in menial rules of little to no value. The caste system of the Skr'ill also stops any social mobility or upheaval, though as of recently with the introduction of humans, the caste has been questioned as humans are not constricted by the same complications as the Skr'ill are. When not in warfare with each other, the Skr'ill devote all their resources into building up the massive armies and navies of the Federation to bestow their might upon other races, though often times after a conquest has either failed or succeeded, Skr'ill will turn on each other if not presented with another species-wide challenge to keep them occupied.
The Skr'illian Military
Despite being almost dysfunctional together when fighting each other, the Skr'ill have shown incredible unity when fighting as a united front against another entity or faction that is not Skr'illian. Despite the fact that the Skr'ill are often leaderless as a species, a council of war is always kept to regulate the training regimen and creation of units when an individual ascends to the throne as King. This allows for the Skr'ill to quickly mobilize and train large armies in order to begin conquests against others in the glory of their species name. The Skr'illian military largely depends upon combined arms warfare and the individual merit of each warrior in order to succeed against those who they choose to fight against.
A Skr'illian and Human officer review a mixed-blood division of Skr'illians before they are sent off on their species-wide conquest.
The intricate caste system of the Skr'ill often provide for a society that can be both dysfunctional and functional at the same time.

Calsaak Tulliex II, the Current Emperor of the Infinite Empire
Faction Name: The Infinite Empire
Government Type: Absolute Monarchy
Race(s): Siraki, Sarians, Humans, Skr'ill
Backstory;
Background
The origins of the Infinite Empire were formed from hardship and durability. The Siraki, once a cultured people who rejected violence and preferred pacifist societies, were almost completely extinct when conflict finally ended up arising on their home world of Sirak. Using super weapons of unparalleled destruction, Sirak's beautiful landscapes were turned into desolate wastelands and the survivors of the war were forced to retreat underground, most of them permanently scarred by the biological weapons used in the war. Simply referred to as 'The Great War' in their history, the Siraki slowly but surely recovered, though their planet was forever scarred by the Great War. Forced to wear rebreathers, most of a Siraki's life was almost a miserable existence stuck inside a life support system. However, life carried on, and the demeanor of the Siraki shifted to the polar opposite of what they had embraced before the war. The Siraki now embraced conflict, and even more, they wanted to use conflict to accumulate vast swaths of resources and land to satisfy their twisted psychology. So it was no wonder that when the Siraki finally took to the stars, the Infinite Empire was founded as they began to take over planets.
Of all the various governments and factions within the galaxy, the Siraki were the most notorious. Their prior treatment from the Great War left them with almost no pity or remorse for those they conquered. Embracing conflict as the Skr'ill do, the Siraki were both able and willing to fight any faction for claim to a planet. In several instances, Siraki military forces simply fought over the atmosphere of planets which had no important strategic or economic benefits and devastated the planet from orbit, turning the planets into wastelands akin to Sirak. The planets they did conquer, the Siraki either massacred the inhabitants if they resisted or enslaved them. Much of the Infinite Empire's external trade with other factions is either the slave trade or factions purchasing their own people to free them from the Siraki. The Infinite Empire itself is a maverick among the galactic powers. It does not conquer to expand to gain power; rather it conquers to display the power that it has. Much of the Infinite Empire's space is uncharted, and the only foreigners to have been on Sirak are the slaves which the Siraki have taken.
Life in the Empire
The Infinite Empire's society is a rather quiet one compared to the other powers it shares the galaxy with. The Siraki as a whole race are subservient to their Emperor, who rules absolutely with an advisory council. Life in the Empire revolves around the idea of simply existing. The twisted psychology of the Siraki has led them to believe that the fact that they exist is reason enough to be thankful and give their utmost devotion to their Emperor. A majority of the population still remains irreversibly scarred from the Great War, requiring rebreathers and other life support devices to even function, but small minorities of society have managed to reverse the damage done and revert back to their physical states before the Great War. However, most of this minority are the wealthy aristocratic families who compete for a seat on the advisory council and thus have the money to spare for research and development into ways to counter their hideous deformities. The ideology supported by the whole Empire is that Siraki's have a right to enjoying themselves in their mortal lives, and therefore care little about non-Siraki, giving birth to an almost xenophobic society akin to the Terran Dominion.
The Military
The Infinite Empire's military was, for all essential purposes, a mystery to most other galactic powers. Unlike most other militaries, the Infinite Empire's military seemed to be trained only in keeping up offensive actions on the enemy. It was very rare that the Infinite Empire had to defend its territories. They either claimed planets or decimated them. The Infinite Empire's lack of recognition for basic rights that most factions granted to civilians in warfare had turned the tide of battle many times, as the Imperial forces simply shelled civilian centers and caused mass panics which in turn disrupted the military forces defending the planet. For all its might and glory, the Infinite Empire's expansion was a slow crawl compared to the other galactic powers. Imperial commanders often only launched an expedition to conquer a planet to either remind those of the might of the Empire, destroy a planet in the name of the Emperor, or capture more resources to be exploited. The military's primary weakness relied in its inability to coordinate and launch mass invasions to topple other governments, where it was instead relegated to the role of invading a system and taking a planet or two.

Sorry for the long wait, I was finalizing ideas for each individual faction added so far. Still quite a few more to come with ideas from different people as well who wanted me to help write out the factions.
These are just general overviews that can be given more in-depth looks later if we so choose to do that.

The intricate caste system of the Skr'ill often provide for a society that can be both dysfunctional and functional at the same time.

Backstory

(I'm working on a sheet, but I'm having trouble finding good pictures that fit the idea I have in my mind.)

Re: Divided Galaxy Backstory
That'd be appreciated.
Im looking for a high-tec, special operative type of armor set. Something like the Alliance Marines or the N7 from Mass Effect.
